This is The Way

The Road

The Road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can...

“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.”
— Jer 6:16

The House of Imladris is a place for weary feet, hungry hearts, and thirsty souls. And while the House welcomes any who hold the key, it may be a significant journey for some. The Table, by comparison, is a kind of consummation and exhalation. It's a date, a 111th birthday party, and a mountaintop moment for numbered guests.

The Road is for everyone else — the student, the curious, the veteran, and the pilgrim. It's where faculty meets contractor, beginner meets mentor, on whatever journey the Lord has you on.

A highway in the heart is not a map that you buy. It is a hunger and a hunch about direction and distance that keeps pointing north when the peace that you seek is still over one more ridge. Bilbo was only jesting as he sang his pithy song. We are not. Any step is still a step and our Risen Lord shines on the effort it takes to move closer.

Find here an atlas of signposts and bridges, myriad ways to approach the House. Some of these paths we patrol, others we bless and send.

May you find your way to our door in due time pilgrim.
